This week will see airports up and down the whole of the UK participating in a series of events to mark the AOA’s UK Health & Safety Week, supported by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and aviation services provider, Leidos.

The aim of UK Airports Health & Safety Week is to promote safety improvement and development through experience and learning. It is a national event coordinated by the AOA and by organisations from across the aviation sector.

The slogan for the week will be ‘save tomorrow with safety today’ and there will be three themes around which airports will organise events and activities. These will be working at height, a safe airside environment and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Commenting on the week ahead, chief executive of the AOA, Karen Dee, said:

“I am really looking forward to seeing what airports have planned to highlight this year’s themes, which are vital operational considerations. The week is all about improving awareness, shining a light on the health & safety activities and educating colleagues and local communities about how airports maintain a safe environment. This will ensure we continue to provide the safest possible experience for staff and passengers alike.”

Jon Round, head of airspace, aerodromes and air traffic management, at the UK Civil Aviation Authority, said:

“Aviation remains one of the safest sectors, but by fostering a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement, we can ensure the wellbeing of passengers, staff, and the entire aviation community. Airport Health and Safety Week always serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of maintaining rigorous safety standards at our airports and we’re pleased to be supporting the week and the various events taking place at UK airports.”
