Following the government’s decision yesterday (Thursday 03 March 2025) to approve plans to expand capacity at London Luton Airport, Karen Dee, chief executive of AirportsUK, the trade association for UK airports, said:
“Expanding airports will increase the already significant contribution that they make to the UK economy, both nationally and regionally, creating over £1bn a week in gross value added and supporting over 1m jobs.
“Research by both Sustainable Aviation and the Climate Change Committee recognises that, with new fuels, cleaner, quieter planes, and more energy efficient ground operations, growth-enabling expansion is compatible with our net zero commitments.
“This is why the government has confidence that aviation can help support the economic growth that it is relying on to deliver its policy plans, while also protecting communities and the environment.”
