Today (Monday 15 June 2026) the government has announced a new £219 million low carbon fuels fund to support development and scaling up of sustainable aviation fuel production in the UK.
Commenting on this news, Karen Dee, the chief executive of AirportsUK, the trade body for UK airports, said:
“Not only will SAF play a big part in the decarbonisation of aviation, domestic UK production capability will also ensure energy security, create thousands of jobs, and generate billions in investment, so we are pleased to see this additional government funding that will boost efforts to develop and scale up production.
“We will now work with government, as well as our partners within the Sustainable Aviation coalition, to input into the call for evidence to develop and implement the policies that will see the UK continue at the forefront of this new technology, to the benefit of the whole sector, as well as passengers.”
