TODAY (Thursday 2 April 2026), AirportsUK welcomes the publication of the integrated transport strategy but there is a lack of guidance or action to how connectivity to airports will be achieved, with a spokesperson saying:

“AirportsUK welcomes the publication of the integrated transport strategy and supports its view that a well-integrated public transport system can provide better longer distance connectivity for passengers and workers at airports. However, there is a lack of guidance or action driving how this specific aspect will be achieved. The Government has required airports to increase their public transport mode share, as reflected in recent planning approval decisions, but there is no direct support from the Government for this work in the Strategy, leaving us with a one-sided approach on this issue.

“Rail and bus services are inherently compatible with air travel, so airport connectivity represents a major opportunity for those sectors, and for integrated transport in the UK.  We urge the Government to work collaboratively with airports and the rail and bus industries to support improving public transport use at British airports.”
