Commenting on the proposals for slot alleviation put forward by the government in a statutory instrument this week, Karen Dee, chief executive of AirportsUK, the trade body for UK airports, said:
“Our partners across the aviation sector continue to report no shortage of jet fuel, with senior industry leaders publicly confirming there are no issues in recent days.
“The most important advice for travellers is there is no need for them to change upcoming travel plans, as per current government and industry guidance.
“While it is sensible for government and the industry to plan for all eventualities, given there is currently no fuel shortage and there already rules in place if this changes, the proposals on slot alleviations are premature.
“We will continue to work on behalf of our airport members with government and the wider sector to ensure the best possible outcomes for passengers this summer and beyond.”
