TODAY (Friday 27 March 2026), AirportsUK welcomed the publication of the Northern Ireland Executive’s consultation on aviation policy, with a spokesperson saying:
“AirportsUK welcomes the publication of the Northern Ireland Executive’s consultation on an aviation policy, and the recognition of the vital role aviation connectivity plays in the Northern Irish economy.
“We especially support the focus on Air Passenger Duty’s effects on connectivity with Northern Ireland, given the very real competition its airports face from those in the Republic of Ireland, which has no equivalent aviation tax at all.
“It is also welcome that the Executive intends to work on the situation on duty-free shopping. Due to Northern Ireland’s status following the UK’s exit from the European Union, airports there cannot sell products duty-free to travellers to either the rest of UK or to EU destinations.
“We call on the Executive and the UK Government to work together with airports to resolve these issues.”
