Commenting, for a piece in today’s Guardian, a spokesperson for AirportsUK, the trade body for UK airports, said:
“As an island trading nation, airports and international air travel are important enablers of economic growth, and will play a key role in delivering the government’s ambition to have the fastest rate of growth in the G7.
“The sustainable expansion of airports, both by making best use of existing capacity and by building new infrastructure – subject to planning and environmental requirements – will directly create jobs, inject investment into all areas of the UK and stimulate trade and investment.
“Through the Sustainable Aviation Road-Map, we know airports can expand while meeting net zero commitments and allowing them to grow sustainably, subject to planning and environmental requirements, will increase their economic impact and create further prosperity for the UK.
“Our members are ready to work with national, regional and local government, airport communities and interest groups to facilitate this and to ensure the UK remains a competitive place on the global stage, all supporting the government’s growth agenda.”
